GULF SHORES, Ala. - Just Books and Coastal Video, at the Bruno’s Shopping Center, Alabama 59, Gulf Shores will present a weekend of local authors showcasing their books during the Book Lover’s Weekend.
The event will be Saturday, June 16, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with Gulf Shores resident and Christy Award winning author Gilbert Morris. Morris’ well known books includes “The Cat’s Pajamas” and “The House of Winslow Series.” His current book is “The River Rose: A Water Wheel Novel.”
Paris Love – author of “Growing Pains,” a story about best friends searching for true love through good times and bad as they try to stay afloat and ahead of the game. It captures the innocence of the heart, the mind, body and soul, of friends who grow up searching for what we all desire...respect, loyalty and most of all, love and companionship.
Ryan Anderson – author of the “Detective Hank Jordan series,” “The Czech Files” and “The Artist,” a fictional, crime, thriller/murder mystery series, that take place in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Her current novel is “Undelivered.”
Chris Warner and Joe Gilchrist – authors of “Bushwhacked at the Flora-Bama.” Gilchrist tells the history of the Flora-Bama, its inauspicious start, its phoenix-like rise, and tragic, near-demise at the destructive hands of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. He chronicles his quixotic run as a fun-loving and free-wheeling entrepreneur during what was, undeniably, a much simpler time, as well as his thoughts about the uncertain future of our great country — and free market capitalism, in what is today, an increasingly difficult small business climate.
Mark. J. Hainds — author of “Year of the Pig,” a personal journal of one avid hunter's pursuit of wild pigs in 11 American states during the Chinese calendar's “Year of the Pig” in 2007. Hainds is a research associate and forester at Auburn University's Solon Dixon Forestry Center.
Harvey H. Jackson III – A Jacksonville State University historian and a native of the area, has the story of the development of the Florida-Alabama coast from the 1930s to the present. His “Rise and Decline of the Redneck Riviera” begins in WWII, when the attack on Pearl Harbor worried the coastal fishing towns, to the development of condos and resorts that brought with them tourists as well as controversy. Jackson also covers how the locals responded to the recession, real estate collapse, and the oil spill.
Margaret Childress Long – “The Best Place to Be: The Story Of Orange Beach, Alabama.” A book about the city, the history, and the people who have made Orange Beach the “best place to be”.
Roger Reid - author of acclaimed young-adult novels “Longleaf” and “Space,” continues the saga of teenage sleuth, Jason Caldwell, in his new mystery adventure, “Time.” Set at the Steven C. Minkin Paleozoic Footprint Site in North Alabama, Jason is reunited with his friend, Leah, from “Longleaf,” with whom he again solves a mystery and survives danger.
