FOLEY, Ala. - Wolf Bay Lodge in Foley will be collecting goods and food donations to head to northern Alabama in the wake of the tornados that impacted the area last week.
"We've been through a lot ourselves," Sam Smith, manager, said. "We could help the community who has been impacted by this. We have a big facility that can take in a lot of stuff."
It has not been finalized whether the lodge would send people to take stuff up to the victims and communities up north, Smith said. One option is to team up with Christian Life Church in Orange Beach, giving the donations to the church.
"I know they are taking stuff up," Smith said. "There's also a possibility that we take some stuff up ourselves. It all depends on how much we get. We want to get as much stuff up there as fast as possible."
The collection began Monday and will last for "a week or two," Smith said.
"As long as there is a need, we will continue collecting," Smith said.
Smith said he was the first person at the lodge to begin talking and forming the idea.
"We're that kind of people where we've been through a lot and we can sympathize with our old place burning down and Hurricane Katrina and Ivan," he said. "We know about being in a struggle, and we're just trying to be there for people in need."
Smith said the only restriction on the donated goods is the type of money.
"We don't want to take any cash," Smith said. "If people want to write a check or money order, I don't know how they can write it directly to the victims. We just don't want to take any cash."
The lodge has locations in Foley and Orange Beach. The Foley location is on Country Road 20, a half-mile east of Alabama 59. The location in Orange Beach is at Zeke's Landing.
