DAPHNE, Ala.—Eastern Shore Toyota and Hyundai recently presented the Daphne Police Department with seven new automated external defibrillator devices when the dealership opened a branch to sell Hyundai vehicles.
Chief David Carpenter said the police department will place the machines in patrol cars as soon as members of the police force are trained to use the equipment.
“You will see them in our cars as soon as we get trained on them,” Carpenter said.
Earlier this week, the Daphne City Council voted to minimize the fines Eastern Shore Toyota was required to pay to the city for a tardy business license renewal.
Councilman Derek Boulware pointed out that the city was not passing out favors for goods.
“I have to go ahead and clarify something … We don’t do things because people give us things. I was certainly happy that we got them. I don’t believe the Toyota dealership looked to the City of Daphne to do them any favors and I don’t think we need to do favors like that,” Boulware said.
Daphne resident Willie Robison was thankful for the donation to the city.
“I believe those seven defibrillators probably cost more than $7,510. I think they are a little more than that. Let’s thank Toyota and Hyundai for being a model corporation here in this city,” Robison said.
