MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Alabama – The saying goes that a dog is man’s best friend. Volunteers with the Stray Love Foundation is trying to find a person who is looking for two best friends.
Rachel Knotts, a foster homeowner for the organization, is currently looking after two rescues collected from a utility area in the recreation park in Lillian. According to Knotts, the two dogs, Naomi and Ruth, were seen in the same spot for three or four days before she and her husband found them in February.
“Naomi was so pregnant, she could barely crawl over the broken up rocks,” Knotts said. “They were scared and dying of thirst. They could have found some water if they had left the area where they were abandoned but Naomi was very pregnant and could barely move.”
They believe that Naomi is Ruth’s mother, Knotts said.
“Ruth was very protective of Naomi and wouldn’t leave Naomi’s side,” Knotts said. “I think they were staying in the same place in hopes that their family would come back for them, as many abandoned animals do.”
After feeding them water, the Knotts took them home and have teamed up with the Stray Love Foundation to help find the two dogs a home in Baldwin County.
“We named them Naomi and Ruth from Bible book of Ruth because their loyalty to each other has been very evident from the day we found them and they are inseparable,” Knotts said. “We want to find them a loving family where they can stay together for the rest of their lives.”
Naomi gave birth to a litter of nine puppies on Mar. 4, all of which were homed through the Stray Love Foundation.
According to Knotts, both dogs are housetrained, have all their shots, are spayed and fitted with a microchip.
“They are very affectionate and gentle girls,” Knotts said.
