MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Ala. - Local residents from Summerdale, Elberta, Magnolia Springs and Foley celebrated America's birthday in style this weekend with fireworks, games, a parade and overall family celebration.
The weekend-long celebration began Saturday and ended Monday, with the town of Summerdale hosting a fireworks show Saturday night for local residents. Pioneer Park was packed with people as fireworks lifted off and filled the skies with the extravagant colors.
Open Door Baptist Church in Foley welcomed the Seminole String Band Sunday for a patriotic performance of tunes. The string band is a family and church bluegrass gospel band that formed out of Seminole Baptist Church.
The Magnolia Springs Volunteer Fire Department and town Community Association hosted a Fourth of July parade Monday that traveled through the town and ended at the fire department. Afterwards, kids enjoyed activities and all residents socialized while chowing down on hot dogs.
The town of Elberta and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5658 held a "Family Fun Day" Saturday afternoon and a fireworks show in the evening. Children enjoyed games at the event while food and drinks were available.
