FAIRHOPE, Ala. — It was a beautiful sunny day on Friday as 350 athletes competed in events for the 2011 Special Olympics held at W.C. Majors Field in Fairhope.

Local schools participate in Special Olympics event

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — It was a beautiful sunny day on Friday as 350 athletes competed in events for the 2011 Special Olympics held at W.C. Majors Field in Fairhope.

Kicking off the event with a Law Enforcement Torch Run beginning at Fairhope High School at 8 a.m. and ending at W.C. Majors Field, each school represented marched in the Parade of Athletes at 9:15 a.m. and various student athletes were passed the torch as it made its way around the field.

Participating schools were Bay Minette Elementary, Bay Minette Intermediate, Bay Minette Middle, Bay Minette High, Central Baldwin Middle, Daphne Elementary, Daphne East, Daphne High, Delta, Elberta Elementary, Elberta Middle, Fairhope Elementary, Fairhope Intermediate, Fairhope Middle, Fairhope High, Foley Elementary, Foley Middle, Foley High, Gulf Shores Elementary, Gulf Shores High, J. Larry Newton, Loxley, Magnolia, Perdido, Robertsdale Elementary, Robertsdale High, Spanish Fort Elementary, Spanish Fort Middle, Spanish Fort High and W.J. Carroll.
