Loxley Elementary 5th graders recently got the chance to roll the dice in math class. Students in Mrs. Andrea Grimes’ class paired with a partner, then they took turns rolling the dice. The math activity was actually a review of place value. The students each had a partner. They took turns rolling the die and had to strategically place the number that they rolled in a place on the place value chart. The objective was to get a higher number than their opponent. After they played about 10 games, they took their numbers and had to round them to the nearest tenth and nearest hundredth. Some of the problems were easily calculated mentally and some of the problems required pen, paper and collaboration. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity and are looking forward to more 5th grade math activities.
