LOXLEY — The town of Loxley approved two ordinances and passed a resolution following public hearings at its meeting Monday night.
The meeting, which is normally scheduled for the second Monday of every month, was pushed back a week to allow Mayor Billy Middleton, Mayor Pro-Tem Richard Teal and Council member Wallace Sabin to attend a convention in Washington, D.C.
The council first voted to adopt ordinance 2008-03 establishing a system of fines and warnings for system producing false alarms.
If a system produces three fire alarms per year, the ordinance states that the police/fire inspector provide a written notice that the user take corrective action.
Beginning with the fourth alarm the user will be fined $25 per offense. If the system produces more than six fire alarms per year, then a fine of $50 will be assessed per alarm up to nine false alarms. The fine will increase to $100 for each beginning with the 10th false alarm, $200 each beginning with the 13th, $250 each beginning with 15th, $500 per alarm for the 20th and above.
All fees assessed must be paid to the city clerk or a written appeal must be submitted to the chief of police/fire inspector within three days of the fee assessment.
The council also voted to pass Ordinance 2008-01 amending the building permit fee schedule in Section 14-7 of the Code of Loxley.
The council also passed Resolution 2008-02 adopting the International Building Code 2006, International Gas Code 2006, International Mechanical Code 2006, International Plumbing Code 2006, International Residential Code 2006, International Fire Code 2006; National Electric Code 2005, and the town of Loxley’ Supplimental Code in addition ot the current International codes.
In other business, the council voted to give $500 for the town’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.
They also voted to appoint Ann Kuklo to the town’s Library Board.
