LOXLEY, Ala. — The council heard from Mayor Billy Middleton, March 8 who said that there are two openings on the industrial development board and one opening on the town’s personnel board. If a Loxley resident is interested in those positions, they should contact Middleton or the Town Clerk. All members of the council were present for the meeting.
The town approved the hiring of Jerdan Services Inc. of Mobile to control weeds in drainage ditches along the Interstate and town roads.
Superintendent of Utilities Tommy Hudson commented that the weed killers Jerdan will use are to kill shrubs and large weeds, leaving the grass behind to prevent erosion.
“We have to be careful (to control erosion),” said Hudson, adding that Jerdan has the permits to do the work.
The council approved Jerdan with a unanimous vote.
The council also approved the use of the Loxley Civic Center for the town’s Easter Egg hunt. The hunt will happen at 2 p.m. March 21. According to organizers, the hunt attracted 200 youngsters last year. The council also voted to give the hunt $400. According to Middleton, the council has given $500 in years past, but the council, citing other worthy causes that come to them, voted the lesser amount.
The council also voted to authorize a establishing a new account just for grant funds at United Bank.
Middleton said, “This is something our auditors recommend we do.”
The council voted unanimously to establish the account, with council member Jeffrey T. Knight abstaining. It was said later that his wife works for the bank.
The council also heard from Patrolman Mike Landenwich about several activities the Loxley Police Department hopes to be involved in, including the Special Olympics in Fairhope and a roof-sit on a building in Robertsdale for charity.
Loxley Police Chief John Cason had nothing to report to the council. Nor did Fire Chief Tim Curry.
Middleton, however, told Curry that the mayor of Thomasville was very complimentary to the LVFD, for their coming to Thomasville’s aid when a water main froze.
in other council action, the Loxley town council voted to:
— Accept the minutes of the Feb. 8 meeting.
— Approved $52,866.03 in town bills.
