LOXLEY, Ala. — The Town of Loxley passed a motion to award Davison Fuels of Mobile the gasoline and diesel fuel bid for 2011 at their Monday night meeting.

Coming in with the lowest bid of $2.30 for gas and $2.45 for diesel, Tommy Hudson, Town Public Works director, said they use about 37,000 gallon of gas and diesel every year for all vehicles in all departments. “Even though one of the diesel bids were lower, overall when both prices were put together, Davison was the lowest.”

The deadline for submitting bids was November 22 and bids were opened on December 6, Town clerk Melissa Lawrence said. “These prices will fluctuate two or three cents each month but that’s about it.”

Other bidders were Pepco of Fairhope with $2.41 for gas and $2.35 for diesel, Minto Energy of Mobile had $2.38 for gas and $2.40 for diesel and Richerson Oil of Bay Minette with $2.78 for gas and $2.88 for diesel.

The town also passed resolutions pertaining to five public hearings about public nuisances concerning overgrown grass, weeds, debris, trash, stagnant water and junk on 5024 N. Holly St., 71 Grimes Lane (2) and 27890 Sunridge Road (2).

Certified letters were sent to the residents and they have 15 days to remove the nuisance items. If they are not removed, a citation will be issued for violating the Town Nuisance Ordinance, Mayor Billy Middleton said.

One of the residents of 27890 Sunridge Road was present at the meeting and said some of the junk had been removed but would take another week to remove all of it. He also asked if a fence could be built to contain it. Middleton said all that would do is hide it and it needed to be removed.

In other council business, the town passed a motion to allow Sonya Franklin to come off of the Board of Appeals and to appoint Janis Kristofferson to replace her.

Middleton also announced they had a request from the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce to nominate a business for Business of the Year Award and nominations are due by December 31. Also announced was the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade taking place on Monday, January 17. The parade route will take place from Loxley Church of God to the Loxley Civic Center.
