LOXLEY, Alabama — If you plan to rent the Loxley Civic Center in the near future, you may be paying more.
The Loxley Town Council voted unanimously at its meeting Monday night to change scheduling fees for the Civic Center, voting to increase some rates, while other rates were more than cut in half.
“It has become necessary, due to increases in costs, to re-evaluate the fee schedules for both the Loxley Civic Center and the Loxley Town Hall,” according to a written statement included in Monday night’s agenda packet. “It is unfortunate for us to consider changes in the fees as the Loxley Civic Center is the most affordable building of its kind and one of the best kept.”
The Town Council voted to adopt Option 2 of the proposed fee scheduled changes, increasing individual lease rates for the main auditorium from $250 to $300 for residents of Central Baldwin; from $300 to $400 for residents of Baldwin County and from $350 to $500 for residents outside Baldwin County.
Rates for business meetings decreased from $100 to $50 per hour for local and from $200 to $75 for non-local residents. Prime hour business meeting rates increased from $250 to $300 for local residents and remained unchanged at $350 for non-local residents.
Fees for company parties remained unchanged at $300 for local and $400 for non-local residents. Property owners association rates were also unchanged at $50 for local and $200 for non-local residents. For clubs not affiliated with the Civic Center, rates remained at $50.
Rates for individual lease of the meeting room increased from $75 to $100 for residents of Central Baldwin, while rates for residents of Baldwin County and residents outside Baldwin County are unchanged at $100 and $150 respectively.
All other meeting room rates are unchanged, including day hour rates of $50 for local and $75 for non-local residents; prime hour rates of $100 for local, $150 for non-local residents; property owner association rates of $50 for local, $75 for non-local and a rate of $25 for all clubs not affiliated with the Civic Center.
A rental fee of $100 for the main auditorium at the Loxley Town Hall, which requires the mayor’s approval, remains in effect.
The Town Council also voted not to increase special fees and extras and key/damage deposit fees for the Civic Center and Town Hall, including:
• Rehearsal fees for weddings and other activities per hour if available, $50.
• Additional hours, $15 per hour beyond 12 if available; $35 per hour beyond midnight if approved.
• Security fee, $35 per hour.
• Cleanup fees (optional), $100 for complete setup; $50 for partial setup; $150 for complete cleanup; $75 for partial cleanup.
• Key/damage deposit for all rooms at the Civic Center, $200 for use of any room after hours; $300 for alcohol use, plus required security; $300 for teen parties, plus required security.
• Key/damage deposit for Town Hall, $50 for any use when a key is needed.
The Town Council also voted unanimously at Monday’s meeting to establish a Municipal Civic Center Committee, which would be composed of five members appointed by a unanimous vote of the Council, each serving a term of four years.
Under the terms of the ordinance, no more than three members may be municipal officials or employees of the Town of Loxley.
In other business Monday, the Council voted to cease the addition of fluoride to the town’s water supply.
According to the ordinance adopted at Monday’s meeting, Ordinance 188 was passed on Nov. 24, 1980 under the impression that adding fluoride to the town’s water supply would benefit the dental health of residents.
Studies now show that any help provided by the addition of fluoride in the drinking water is minimal and the grade of fluoride presently available to the town is not consistent and not a dental grade.
According to records, the town spent $3,588 to add fluoride to its water supply last year. The addition of fluoride also causes additional maintenance costs.
“It’s simply not worth what we’re paying for it,” said Mayor Billy Middleton.
In other business Monday, the council:
• Adopted Ordinance 2013-05 establishing a Municipal Beautification Committee for the town.
• Voted to contract with Jerdan Services Inc. for 2013 vegetation and pest management.
• Voted to send one employee to National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) training classes in New Orleans at a cost of $400 for the class, $507 ($169 per night) for hotel, plus food and travel expenses.
