LOXLEY, Ala. – A Loxley couple is facing drug possession and manufacture charges after police say they found a small meth lab at the couple’s home near Loxley Elementary School.
Billy Lyle “B.J.” Wallace, 40, and Amber Sheree McKenzie, 29, of South Magnolia Street in Loxley, were arrested Tuesday, Aug. 30 and charged with manufacture of a controlled substance, first degree, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. They are both being held at the Baldwin County Corrections Facility on a $31,000 bond.
Wallace, who played his freshman and sophomore seasons in Robertsdale, finished his high school baseball career at Monroe Academy before going on as a standout pitcher at Mississippi State.
He starred on the U.S. Olympic Baseball team in Barcelona in 1992 and was drafted by the Montreal Expos later that year, foregoing his senior year with the Bulldogs.
He was arrested on charges of criminally negligent homicide in January of 2004 after a grand jury indictment in Sept. 30, 2003.
The charges stemmed from a June 2003 incident in Summerdale in which Joseph R. Pearson, 59, of Boligee in Greene County, Ala., died after his vehicle was rear-ended. Wallace was arrested on DUI charges at the time of the incident.
He was also arrested in March 2009 on second degree bail jumping charges and in February 2010 on a probation violation.
McKenzie was arrested in January 2007 on third degree domestic violence charges.
According to published reports, the lab was small and portable, most likely designed for personal use.
