LOXLEY, Ala. — Gone fishin’…
The Loxley Optimist Club is going to be doing a lot of that this Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Dean Black pond in Loxley as they host their annual Youth Fishing Rodeo.
Open to kids 13 and under, this free event is guaranteed to be fun and exciting for all participants, Optimist member and Loxley Mayor Billy Middleton commented.
“We have been doing this event for 20 plus years and always have a good crowd. Last year we had 68 young people. We are hoping for a pretty day and another good turnout,” Middleton said.
Awards for the biggest fish and most fish caught will be handed out ad well as other awards and door prizes donated by Campbell’s Hardware in Robertsdale like coolers, fishing rods and other items.
A hamburger lunch with all the fixings plus coke products donated by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company will be provided by the Optimist Club and participants must bring their own rods and tackle and there will be a limited amount of bait available to use.
For more information, contact Middleton at (251) 747-1698. Dean Black Pond is located on N. Alabama St., just past First Baptist Church Loxley.
