LOXLEY, Ala. — With all council members present, the town council was presented a preview of the town’s audit. The council voted to schedule a work session at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15 to discuss the matter.

The Loxley town council heard about the town’s Arbor Day celebration.

This year, the town’s “Tree Give Away” will be held Thursday and Friday, Feb. 18 and 19 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Town Hall parking lot, 1089 S. Hickory St. According to a flyer distributed by the town, there will be several varieties of oak, cypress, and pine to choose from. Flowering trees include Common Apple, Flowering Dogwood, Western Mayhaw, Common Pear, plum, and magnolia.

“But there will be one tree per family,” explained, Glenn Hedden, Parks and Recreation Director. Because of recent frosts, local nurseries were not able to provide as many trees as usual, so the “one tree per family” policy has to be used.

The council also unanimously passed two resolutions naming Roth, McHugh & Associates the administrators of one of the town Community Development Block Grants and Goodwin, Mills and Cawood the administrators of another CDBG grant.

Loxley Chief of Police John “Chip” Cason announced that he has been selected to attend the FBI’s National Academy in Quantico, Va. The 10-week course offers advanced investigative, management, and fitness training.

Mayor Billy Middleton told the council, that it would cost “about $2,500” to send Cason to the academy.

“It’s really an honor,” Middleton said.

Cason told the council that the Loxley police Department responded to 800 calls last month.

According to Loxley Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Curry, the department responded to 34 calls last month. He also praised the Public Works Department for their work maintaining the department’s fire trucks.

The council also approved a proclamation declaring February as “Alabama Marriage Month.”

The council also approved $74,538.23 in town bills.
