LOXLEY, Ala. — A motion was passed by the Town of Loxley at Monday evening’s meeting to accept a bid of $1,938 from Southern Building Structures in Robertsdale for a bus cover at the Loxley Civic Center.
Joey Knight, civic center director, explained to the council the cover will be 12 foot 6 inches by 20 foot by 9 foot and will be used to protect the bus from wind and rain damage.
“We need to protect our bus and even though this was not the lowest bid we received, it is the only one that guaranteed wind protection up to 110 mph,” Knight said.
Funding for the cover comes from senior citizen projects throughout the year and will be installed in the parking lot on the north side of the building by the baseball fields in the next few weeks.
The council also passed a motion to allow the civic center to be used for a Martin Luther King Jr. program following a MLK March from the Loxley Church of God to the civic center on Monday, January 17. The march will begin at 9 a.m.
In other business, the council passed a motion to amend Curfew Ordinance No. 2001-15, Section III relating to minors.
According to the ordinance, the original section stated “It shall be unlawful for any minor seventeen (17) years of age and under the age of seventeen (17) to be upon the streets of the Town of Loxley or in any public park or public place, or bus station, or filling station, or any other public place between the hours of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning; and 12 p.m. to 5 a.m., Friday night through Sunday morning.”
It was changed to read from “12 a.m. to 5 a.m., Friday night through Sunday morning.”
Resolution 2011-01 was also passed to award the Sewer Rehabilitation Project in the amount of $229,600 to American Infrastructure Technological Corporation, Inc. out of Hanceville, Al. This project is part of a grant awarded to the town.
The council also passed a motion to grant garbage fee exemptions for those who applied and announced that an $1,800 grant from former D.A. Judy Newcomb’s discretionary fund
was awarded to the Loxley Court Clerk’s office. The money will be used to purchase two new computers from Data Trust in Robertsdale.
And in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Town Hall will be closed on Monday, January 17.
