Lucille Sauls Byrd, 88, of Gulf Shores, died Monday, April 21, 2014.
She was born to the late Quin and Ollie Sauls on March 23, 1926 in Monticello, Miss.
Lucille graduated high school in Monticello and was selected to be the Miss Monticello Cotton Queen.
She married the late George L. Byrd Feb. 2, 1945 and they lived together in Mobile before retiring to Gulf Shores.
Lucille is also preceded in death by her only grandson, Wayne Clinton Davis.
Lucille was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing with her friends, Reva Fell, Vermell Draper, Opal Blackwell, Linda Glover, Marsha Sanders and Colleen Meyers.
She was a member of Lagoon Baptist Church.
Lucille is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George Robert and Sherry Byrd of Mobile; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen Lynne and Terry Davis of Tyler, Texas; a granddaughter, Georgia Lynne and her husband Tony Harris of Whitehouse, Texas; a granddaughter-in-law, Crystal Lynne Davis of Flint, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Lynne and Lincoln Douglas Harris of Whitehouse, Texas and Wayne Cash and Lucy Lynne Georgie Davis of Flint, Texas.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff who cared so well for her at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center.
Lucille was seldom seen without a smile on her face. She touched all those she met and will forever live in the hearts of her many friends and family members.
There will be a time for visitation with the Byrd family on Thursday, April 24, 2014, from noon until 2 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 2 in the Pine Rest Funeral Home chapel in Foley.
Lucille will be buried with her husband immediately following the service in Pine Rest Memorial Park.
