Nellie Lee Dean Heveran Lyons, 97, a native of Baldwin County, and a resident of Fairhope, died Monday June 30, 2008 at a local health care facility.
After teaching a year in Magnolia Springs, she married Glenn Heveran in 1930 and moved to his Chicago area home in Gurnee, Ill. There she raised four children as a home maker and later resumed her teaching career.
She eventually obtained a degree in education and taught until retirement. After Heveran’s death she married Russell Lyons. In 1988 she and her husband moved to Fairhope for the warmer climate and to be closer to her many southern relatives.
Nellie attributed her long life to “Healthy parents, hard work, dear children and friends, and return to the place of my birth.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Sermon Dean and Maybelle Findley Dean, two husbands, Glenn Edward Heveran and Russell Lyons.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald Heveran of Fairhope, Edward Heveran of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and James Heveran of Fairhope and Constantine, Mich.; daughter, Judith Heveran Bemis of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two sisters, Helen Fuqua of Cantonment, Fla., and Mary Sue Head of Stapleton; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesdsay, July 8 at Fairhope United Methodist Church.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Fairhope United Methodist Church, 155 S. Section St. Fairhope, AL 36532.
