M. Preston Prine

M. Preston Prine, 91, born Feb. 28, 1920 in Sims Chapel, Ala., a longtime resident of Fairhope and Crestview, Fla., and a resident of Mobile, died Friday, March 4, 2011.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa and Europe with the 16th Air Service Squadron of the 12th Air Force. He worked as an Air Force quality assurance specialist at Fairchild Industries in Crestview until his retirement in 1980. He was employed in 1981 by Arbruster Realty in DeFuniak Springs as a Real Estate salesman, retiring again in 1993.

He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church for over 30 years, and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 7968. For many years he took an active part in the Knights’ annual “Tootsie Roll Drive.” He was an avid bridge player, a charter member of the Elks Club, and longtime member of the Crestview Leisure Club.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Edith Barton Prine.

Survivors include a son, Alan P. Prine of Daphne; daughter, Rosemary (David) Hoodless of Mobile; and four grandchildren, Alan C. Prine of Mobile, Joseph Prine of Atlanta, Matthew and Lydia Hoodless, both of Mobile.

Visitation begins at noon Monday, March 7 at Whitehurse Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery.
