Webster G. “Mac” MacCartee Sr., 87, a native of Washington, D.C., a former resident of Western Maryland and a resident of Silverhill, died Monday, June 9, 2008.

He was a proud soldier and jump master serving in Maryland National Guard for 12 years; was a veteran of the Korean War after enlisting in 511th Airborne Infantry and served three years at Ft. Campbell, Ky.; he received numerous national 4-H awards in his youth and served 25 years as a 4-H leader; was president of Maryland Ayrshire Dairy Association and a well known dairy cattle judge in the eastern states. He was a councilman of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown, Md.; after retiring from dairy farming for many years, he moved to Silverhill where he was a home builder in Baldwin County; was co-owner of the Nationally known Minamac Wildflower Bog featured in Southern Living, Sunday Morning Show hosted by Charles Karout and visited annually by worldwide wildflower and botanist enthusiasts. He received the first environmental award from the Baldwin County Commission in 1998; and he was an avid fisherman at his private lake and enjoyed gardening, wildflower study and bird watching as well as parachuting on his 75th birthday.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles J. and Alice Stewart MacCartee and brother Charles J. MacCartee.

Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Minnie “Min” Petitt MacCartee of Silverhill; two daughters, Joy (Fletcher) Eyster of Napa Valley, Calif., and Alice (Jim) Brown of Pensacola, Fla.; two sons, Webster Graham MacCartee Jr. of Daphne and Matthew Howard (Rebecca) MacCartee of Haddock, Ga.; brother Henry Wehland of Cantonsville, Md.; sister, Ida Anthony of Elliott City, Md.; and five grandchildren, Christ MacCartee of Oregon, Caleb MacCartee of Mobile, and Tyler, Tara and Tabitha MacCartee, all of Haddock, Ga.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
