The Magnolia School Library has been very busy! They check out over 800 books a day. On Sept. 27, they circulated 990 books.

They are having a reading contest called “Be a Champion.” Any student, who reads eight books, gets a chance to win two Iron Bowl tickets. Who will win the reading contest at Magnolia School — Alabama or Auburn?

Since Mrs. McKenzie’s kindergarten is learning about Johnny Appleseed and apples, they got to make an apple pie. They have also been learning about pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns. Students have been learning on the computer through Disney Junior, Starfall, and Compass.

The kids love Mrs. McKenzie’s class because of the fun times with the computer, science, and The Gingerbread Man Song.

Mrs. Christopher’s kindergarten class is counting how many days they have been in school by using a “caterpillar.” Every day, they add number to the caterpillar. Also kindergarten is making a community helper book. They are coloring pictures of jobs people do and what happens in their community.

Kindergarten is learning to spell and say their names.

In Mrs. Lane’s first grade class, they are learning how to classify different animals in science. In math, they are using the Smartboard to learn how to count and add. In social studies, they are learning about people who work and live in communities. They are making community murals. Mrs. Lane’s favorite thing about her class is the excitement on their faces everyday.

In Mrs. Schepker’s class, they are doing a leaf project. They will find leaves in their yard and glue them to paper. Then they will come to school and present the leaf project to their classmates. The computer lab has been busy doing Compass Learning, taking tests in math and in AR, and playing educational games. In social studies, they are learning about the different communities.

For example, suburb, urban, and rural. Their favorite thing about Mrs. Schepker’s class is the rocket math, which is multiplication, the AR parties, and their wonderful and magnificent classmates.

This week, Mrs. Ramsey’s fourth grade class is making clay fossils. They spread a piece of air dry clay in a bowl, then press plastic bugs or a shell into the clay, and lastly pour plaster in the bowl.

In just an hour, the fossil is found! Their favorite thing about their class is Mrs. Ramsey picks one student at the end of each day to get something out of the treasure box. Only the students who have been on their best jag behavior get to be treasure hunters!

In P.E., Coach Jordon and Coach Harrison are having the kids learn about how to play volleyball and foursquare. They are starting to run four laps around the dirt field. Four laps around the dirt field equals a mile. Students can get in the 50 mile club after running 50 miles and the 100 mile club after running 100 miles.
