Magnolia School’s fourth grade went on a field trip to Montgomery (Alabama’s state capitol) on March 23, 2012. Although it was long, the students enjoyed the bus ride because they spent time with their friends. When they got to Montgomery they went to many important places including the Montgomery Zoo, Old Alabama Town, and the Capitol Building. The students enjoyed the zoo because they saw many animals. Some of the favorites among the students were the monkeys, zebras, parakeets, and rhinoceros. The students got to hold the parakeets, and they saw many animals for the first time. Old Alabama Town was a museum that showed the students houses, schools, churches, and stores from the 1800’s. The students enjoyed the Capitol Building because they had statues, murals, and the underground tunnel that they went through to get there. The Montgomery field trip was a great experience that held a lot of great memories.

Magnolia School Student Council has been very busy this year. The Student Council Representatives are Brandon Brown, Carrah Jane Lipscomb, Matthew Guy, Logan Tindal, Rizpah Sarcar, Michaela Moye, Shay Parsons, Owen Cole, Kaden Edenfield, Gabby Toomey, Amber Wester, Jessica Creech, Charlotte Baker, and Taylor Tillman, who are all 6th graders. One of their community service projects is the blood drive. Relatives of the students were asked to donate a pint of blood.

The blood was to go to hospitals around Baldwin County and help any patients need of blood. Student Council helped by giving the patients drinks such as Gatorade, apple juice, and coke. They also gave out chocolate cookies and T-shirts. Thanks to student council they were able to have a great fundraiser and helped the hospital. Recently, Student Council Representatives made signs and cheered for the Magnolia School Special Olympians. Earlier, they collected fruit and made fruit bags for residents of the Live Oak Assisted Living Facility, as well as singing Christmas carols for them. Student Council also conducted their annual toy drive and collected money to donate to Samaritan’s Purse. This busy Student Council has even more planned for the school year.
