Magnolia School is proud to announce their American Legion Essay Contest Winners: Emily Thompson from Mrs. Williams’ sixth grade class, Taylor Smith from Mrs. Bay’s sixth grade class, and Kayla Kellams from Ms. January’s fourth grade class. The students wrote essays entitled, “How Can I Show My Patriotism in My Community?” The students received certificates and cash prizes for their accomplishments.
Mrs. McKenzie’s kindergarten class is doing something special with their classroom. They are arranging it to look sort of like the local community. The classroom has a stage, a restaurant, library, water park, zoo, haunted house, and a post office. The students will use reading, writing, and higher order thinking at each new center. The students are very excited about this big change to their classroom.
In Mrs. Munoz’s kindergarten class, they are looking forward to Tuesday when they will go on a field trip to the Mobile Exploreum. In math they are learning about adding and subtracting. Their favorite thing about Mrs. Munoz is that she is nice.
In Mrs. Lane’s 1st grade they have been getting soil from their yards and comparing their soil with their classmates’ soil. This is a part of their science lesson on rocks and soil. They use the computer to introduce the students to their new reading stories and to watch animated videos of their stories. In math, they have been learning about place values, greater than, less than, and equal to. In Grammar they are hearing exclamations. The students’ favorite subjects are Science and Math.
In Mr. Richardson’s second grade reading class they are reviewing unit 5. In math they are learning place value. For Social Studies they are studying immigrants. In science, the class is learning about insects. For technology the students are doing math and reading on the Smartboard and on the computer they take A.R. tests. Their favorite thing to do in his class is to complete lessons on the Smartboard.
This week in Mrs. Schepker’s third grade class, they have been working on an Easter poem that they are writing in cursive. In science they are looking forward to learning about electricity. In the computer lab, they use Compass Learning and play educational games that help them with skills that they might struggle with. Mrs. Schepker is so very proud of how hard her class has worked preparing to take the ARMT test for the first time ever. She knows that they will do great! Their favorite thing about Mrs. Schepker is how nice and fun she is.
Mrs. McDuffie’s 5th grade class is working on their ARMT books in class and is working very hard on practicing for the big ARMT test. They also wrote a journal entry about what exciting things they did over Spring Break. In science they are learning about the different types of energy, such as kinetic, potential, mechanical, and chemical.
