In Library, the K-3rd students are listening to folklore about leprechauns, 4th-5th grade students are learning about bibliographies, and 6th grade is finishing a Cinderella Comparison Chart. Library is special because students can earn an A.R. t-shirt and book bags. They use non-fiction books, encyclopedias, and websites for research. The kindergarten students like being able to color pictures that go with the story they read.
In Mrs. McKenzie’s kindergarten class they are drawing pictures about helicopters. The helicopter pictures will be sent to the coast guard. They are learning about St. Patrick. On the computers they take tests and play educational games like Starfall and Disney Jr. In math they are learning how to count and add. They like learning and playing games with Mrs. McKenzie.
In Mrs. Lane’s first grade class, they are writing in journals. For science class they are learning about landforms and soil. In math they are learning subtraction. Some things they love to do are to play on the Smartboard and to do arts and crafts.
Mrs. Ray’s second grade class is practicing for plays entitled “The Giant’s Bridge” and “The Strongest One.” They are reading and learning about a poem “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” by Shel Silverstein.
This week in Ms. Partin’s third grade class, they are doing a very fun project. They have been looking up all different kinds of food and finding out where they are from. In science they are learning about energy and how it powers things. When they go to the computer lab they use Compass Learning, Pearson Success, and taking tests. Their favorite thing about Ms. Partin is that she is very kind and funny.
Ms. Mullins’ 4th grade class went to the Special Olympics which took place in Fairhope. They went to support a fellow classmate, William Lewis. He competed against many other students in various events. William was selected to be one of the torch bearers. This is quite an honor for him. He is very excited to have been selected. The 4th grade students are very excited for him.
Mrs. Blair’s fifth grade class is working on their reading packets and practicing with the ARMT Coach booklets. Mrs. Blair’s class uses the Smart Board by looking over daily language review and how to get on Compass. They are studying the Constitution and Bill of Rights. In science they are learning about the different types of energy, such as chemical, heat, kinetic, electrical, and mechanical energy.
In Mrs. Harrison’s sixth grade class is currently working on a few projects in Social Studies. They are creating a Hoover Ville or a shanty town out of small boxes. Students are writing an old journal entry from the Great Depression. In Science they are finishing up on a chapter on volcanoes, during which they made volcanoes and erupted them. They are continuing to study hard for the upcoming ARMT testing. Coming up soon, 6th grade students meeting their reading goals are going to Waterville for their A.R. field trip.
