Magnolia School News was written by the sixth grade newspaper staff: Desmond Foy, Cierra Ryan, Abby Gaar, Owen Cole, Shay Parsons, Ashton Wilson, Amber Wester, Will Crosby, and Andy Varcoe.

Mrs. Munoz’s kindergarten class is making a “Mother Goose” Rhyme Book. They are exploring rhyming words and putting them into sentences and poems. One of Mrs. Munoz’s favorite things about her class is how much they participate.

In Mrs. Middleton’s first grade class, they are working on Compass Learning in language and math. They are tearing paper to make a forest. Mrs. Middleton’s favorite thing about her class is all of their hard work.

While reading “Animal Park,” Ms. Cote’s first grade class has been learning about animals like mammals and reptiles. They have also been learning about water and land and making a book about it.

They are watching videos and playing computer activities related to their learning. They love working in groups.

Ms. Ott’s second grade class did an erosion experiment in science using coffee creamer and gravel. They are learning how to use different strategies to add and subtract. They are learning about the sounds — or and  — ore in reading. They use Brain Pop and Compass Learning on the computers. They love to read in groups and get on computer.

Mr. Richardson’ssecond grade class is learning about Johnny Appleseed and how to read numbers to the trillions. They are illustrating their vocabulary words. Their favorite things about the class are expanded form, the Smartboard, and stations.

This week Mrs. Simmon’s class completed a leaf project in science. They love using the Smartboard and going to the computer lab. Their favorite thing about Mrs. Simmon’s is everything!

Mrs. January’s fourth grade class is making fossils with air dry clay and plastic animals. In science, they are learning about fossils and extinct animals. They have been busy taking Compass Learning math and reading tests on the computer.

Their reading story is Coyote School News. It’s about children that go to a K-8 school that writes newspaper and letters. In math, they are adding whole numbers, money, and rounding. They are learning about Native Americans in Alabama history.

Mrs. Walker’s fifth grade class is studying the first Americans. They made outstanding totem poles. In reading, they are focusing on finding the main idea, the theme, and the genre of a story. In language, they are studying verbs. They are getting ready for the Fall Festival on Oct. 29.

In Mrs. Williams’ sixth grade science class, they are learning about the atmosphere and weather. They are also finishing their writing, “The Diary of a Raindrop,” where they must explain their travel through the water cycle.

They enjoy watching Brain Pop videos about science and history. Their favorite thing about Mrs. Williams’ class is that the classmates are helpful and the classroom is always decorated to match the science and social studies chapters being studied.
