Magnolia Springs Boat Christmas Parade set for Friday

MAGNOLIA SPRINGS — The Magnolia Springs Christmas Boat Parade will sail into Magnolia River once again this week.

The event, which is set to take place Friday night, is the opportunity for boating enthusiasts to deck their water-bound crafts with decorations that sport the Christmas spirit.

According to Magnolia Springs Town Councilman Bob Holk, it’s a yearly event that’s become a fixture of the South Baldwin holiday season.

“It’s just been a tradition for over 25 years,” he said in an interview.

That tradition is expected to feature about a dozen boats making their way through Magnolia River.

“We’ll have the Marine Police the Fire Department and Santa Claus,” Holk said.

In addition, privately-owned boats festooned with colored lights will be included.

“Anyone can join, but should attend the boat captains’ meeting at the (Magnolia Springs) Fire Station on (Thursday) the 13th,” Magnolia Springs Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors Secretary Ron Frehm said in an online interview.

The parade begins after sunset, with boats lining up at 5 p.m. Friday at the end of Magnolia River on Weeks Bay, Holk said. He explained that while many water-front home owners will have ideal vantage points, public areas will be available for viewing.

“Points to view the parade ar at Jessamine Street Pier and Bay Street Pier.

“Also, the area behind Jesse’s Restaurant is a great vantage point,” Frehm said, adding that it’s quite a sight to behold. “Bring your camera for this colorful and fun event.”

Following the parade, which is organged by the Magnolia Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Santa Claus is expected to greet visitors at Jesse’s Restaurant.
