MAGNOLIA SPRINGS - The Magnolia Springs Town Council unanimouly approved a motion to host The Stray Love Foundation's pet parade Oct. 29 in Magnolia Springs.
Gayle Guthrie, foundation representative, spoke to the council about the event and hopes that it could become an annual event in the town.
"It'll be a simple, family event but it'll be a lot of fun," Guthrie said.
The parade is scheduled to begin around 3 p.m. with lineup starting at 2:30 p.m. Parade will come down Oak Street and finish at Jesse's Restaurant. Guthrie requested County Road 49 be closed from 2-4 p.m. to accomodate the event.
"And we will have insurance in place," Guthrie said.
Councilman Rick Odess said he thinks the town should be an additional insurer to the event, but all council members gave support.
Guthrie said the city of Foley was interested in hosting the parade, but the board of directors chose Magnolia Springs.
"I approached the board about it and everyone wanted to do it in Magnolia Springs. No one wanted to do it in Foley. It's just so much sweeter (in Magnolia Springs)," she said.
Any resident can have pets involved in the parade and rules and registration information will be listed on the foundation's Website, www.straylovefoundation.com, prior to the event, Guthrie said.
The foundation is a Magnolia Springs-based non-profit group comprised of volunteers who rescue stray, injured, abused and abandoned animals. All animals participating in the parade will be spayed and neutered, Guthrie said. For more information, contact the foundation at 251-540-2236 or visit the foundation's Website.
