Magnolia Springs Council OKs historic district signs

MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Ala. — Travelers through Magnolia Springs will soon have a better way to identify the town’s historic district.

During its March meeting, the Town Council approved funding for four street signs at a cost of $935 each. The signs will be located at Gates Avenue, Pecan Street and both northbound and southbound lanes of County Road 49 leading into the district.

Donna Eslinger of the Magnolia Springs Historic Preservation Committee brought the issue to the Council prior to the vote.

“We have been talking about signage for I don’t know how many years,” she said.

Eslinger explained that the committee’s research had settled on signs that would stand 36 inches tall and 20 inches wide.

“I think these signs will blend really well with what we already have (in the town),” she said, adding that the plaques will have green backs covered with green and grey-white lettering and stand vertically on white posts.

“I think this will be an attractive sign,” Mayor Ken Underwood said.

Upon further discussion, Eslinger said the amount quoted is not the lowest she received.

“But it’s a good price,” she said.

Eslinger added that the committee would get a proof of the sign before proceeding with the project.
