Maj. James Kious Carvey, (U.S. Air Force, retired) 92, born Dec. 17, 1917 in Columbus, Ohio, a resident of Fairhope, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010.
He graduated from North High School and received his Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University where he also taught ROTC.
Having proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and participating in the Berlin Airlift as a command pilot, he accumulated over 10,000 hours of flying time in the B52s and B29s during World War II. During his 24 year career, he was a flight instructor, examiner, and medical air evacuation pilot, as well as a squadron commander and assistant chief of Flight Standardization 10th Air Force.
He was also a member of Sons of the American Revolution, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus (32nd Degree Mason).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel T. Carvey and Ruth K. Carstarphen; and brother, H. Paul Carvey.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Jean S. Carvey; two sons, James Kent (Elizabeth) Carvey of Newark, Ohio, Craig Lewis Carvey of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Karen R. (Eric) Kendrew of Riverview, Fla., Janet C. (Robert) Morris of Washington C.H., Ohio; eight grandchildren,and four great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
