DAPHNE — A birthday celebration turned tragic for two Baldwin County men.
While the night began festively at a Daphne bar, an argument erupted among the friends around 3 a.m. outside the Bay House Pub. The establishment officially closes at 2 a.m.
Daphne Police were initially told Daniel Tuttle, who turned 31 that day, was the victim of a hit and run. Tuttle was unconscious in the parking lot when police arrived. He was transported to Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, where he was later pronounced dead.
Daphne Police spokesman Lt. Judson Beedy said the investigation quickly revealed Tuttle’s injuries resulted from being struck in the head. Police began treating the case as a homicide and issued an arrest warrant for manslaughter for Michael Bain, 25, of 110 West 5th Street, Bay Minette.
He was seen leaving the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile Saturday morning. By that afternoon, Bain was in custody in Mobile and being transported back to Baldwin County.
Bain was charged with manslaughter and released from the Baldwin County Corrections Center on a $10,000 bond. When contacted Monday afternoon, the Daphne Police Detectives Division refused to say when Bain was arraigned or when he was released.
According to news reports, Tuttle left behind a wife of less than a month and a 6-year-old son.
