ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — The body of a 23-year-old male was found in Bayou St. John on Sunday night just before midnight, officials said.
According Sgt. Jody Kelley, the Alabama Marine Police along with local police and fire departments responded to a call about a possible missing swimmer at about 6 p.m. before discovering the body of Scott Heilman, Jr., was found. Heilman was from New Jersey.
Police made contact with the vessel that made the call, a 34-foot SeaRaider with five passengers, anchored near Sand Island.
“Somehow, he jumped or fell from the boat,” Kelley said. “Nobody saw him leave the boat. He drowned or sustained some type of fatal injury”
The body was discovered at 11:30 p.m. Heilman’s remains were sent to the Baldwin County Coroner’s office for autopsy.
