Manhunt ends in arrest

ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — The Baldwin County Sheriffs Office arrested Todd Gates around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning in the parking lot of Fred’s on Highway 59 in Robertsdale. He was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, and will be facing additional charges.

Gates was considered to be “armed and dangerous.”

The Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant Tuesday afternoon at Gates’ residence at the junction of County Road 48 and Adams on the south side of Robertsdale according to Capt. Stephen Arthur of the BCSO.

According to the BCSO, Gates was living at the property, described as a “bunch of sheds and trailers.”

“Gates has several previous arrests,” said Arthur. The arrests were in and around Baldwin County.

Police caught a break from an alert member of the public.

“A citizen spotted him and called it in,” said Arthur, who added that Gates’ Ford F-150 truck had been found earlier and impounded.

Arthur said Gates was arrested “without incident,” and was transported to the Robertsdale police station. He was scheduled later to be transferred to the county jail. No one was injured during the arrest, according to Arthur.

Gates was not on the property when the BCSO executed the search warrant Tuesday. While searching the premises, Jennifer Solice Foley and Charles Randall Oliver were arrested on drug charges.

According to Gates’ relatives, who Arthur said he called while on the run, Gates was armed.

“This was a truly bad character,” said Arthur after Gates’ arrest.
