Margaret Eileen McCormack, 91, died Thursday, March 31, 2011 in Foley.
She was married to John W. McCormack for 58 years, until his death in 2005. She and her husband were very active members of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, working on numerous projects and volunteering for a number of committees and organizations.
She devoted her life to her family and her profession. She was a special education teacher and worked lovingly with her students with emotional and behavioral disorders.
She received her Master’s degree in education, along with her eldest daughter, Patricia, at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She was admired by all who knew her for her wonderful and witty sense of humor, her commitment to those less fortunate, and to her incredible perseverance.
She was born in 1919 in Mitchell, South Dakota to loving parents, William and Katherine, and had two siblings, “Billy” and Mary Katherine. She lived through the Great Depression as a child and later enlisted in the Navy, where she served proudly during World War II.
She especially enjoyed the holidays when her large family would gather together. Her life was a beautiful labor of love and devotion and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include nine children, Patricia Brennan, Dr. Michael McCormack, Laurie Panek, Mary Robinson, Kathleen Benedict, Maureen Sasser, Dr. Bernadette Musetti, Colleen Brouwer and Thomas McCormack; 18 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Bettie Drenkow.
Funeral services were held Monday April 4 at Our Lady of the Gulf. Interment followed at Pine Rest Memorial Park.
