Marilyn Falardeau, a native of Rhode Island and resident of Daphne, was born, raised and educated in North Smithfield, R.I.
She was the daughter of the late William J. Cowell and Gertrude Sanderson Cowell.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John A. Falardeau; sister, Gertrude Cowell Moulico; her best friend and cousin, Nancy (Sanderson) Kershaw; plus five uncles, aunts and numerous cousins.
Marilyn and John moved to Daphne in 1994 and quickly made their home with numerous friends in the Lake Forest community and Country Club, as well as Spanish Fort and Christ Presbyterian churches.
They both belonged to the Senior Couples Golf Association where Marilyn was a past secretary.
She was also an elder at both churches and belonged to various committees.
Marilyn is survived by a niece, Judi Moulico; Judi’s son, David (Louise) Moulico, and their children, Justin, Haley and Sydney of North Smithfield, R.I.; Judi’s daughter, Donna (Ken) Hall and their sons, Brandon and Jeremy of Upton, Mass.
She is also survived by many Vose and Sanderson cousins of Rhode Island and many Vose and McNamee cousins throughout the country.
She is also survived by her mother and father-in-law Millie and Dick Plath of Woonsocket, R.I.; and brother-in-law, Richard (Candy) Falardeau and sister-in-law, Pauline (Bob) Perron of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Linda (Kevin) Shaw of Woonsocket, R.I.; and very special friends, Judy (Charles) Lake of Daphne and Mary Beth (Terry) Skinner of Fairhope; plus her wonderful church family at Christ Presbyterian Church, who made it possible for Marilyn to live independently despite being disabled.
She is also survived by cousins, Robert (Dawn) Vose and their children, Bobby and Bella, Darla Creek, and her sons, Shane and Jonathan of Pensacola.
Marilyn worked for Metropolitan Life in the regional office in New England as executive secretary, covering 37 districts from Cape Cod, Mass., all of Rhode Island and Western Massachusetts.
She earned her CLU, LUTC and SEC degrees and retired at age 49 after 33 years to care for her ailing mother.
She also worked as administrative assistant of the Slatersville Congregational Church in Rhode Island until moving to Alabama.
On her retirement from the church, the governor presented her with a proclamation making Oct. 3, 1994 her day in Rhode Island, and the North Smithfield town administrator presented John and Marilyn with a proclamation as permanent citizens and an invitation to return as ambassadors of the 125th anniversary of the town of North Smithfield.
She was a member and past president of the Ladies Guild of the Slatersville Congregational Church, and she was also a member and past president of the North Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxillary and secretary of Lake Forest Women’s Club for several years.
She enjoyed playing sports, both winter and summer, was and avid horseback rider, and John and Marilyn went to the 1,000 Acres Dude Ranch in Lake George, N.Y. on their honeymoon.
She was an avid NASCAR, Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Bruins and Alabama fan.
Marilyn’s body will be donated to the Anatomical Department of the University of South Alabama, and a memorial service will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 2 p.m.
