MARLOW, Ala. — Sunday morning’s 27 vehicle chain reaction crash east of Loxley on I-10 wasn’t the only multi-vehicle accident in the area.

Two days before, on Feb. 6, six people were injured on Baldwin County Road 32, seven miles west of this community, in a five-vehicle crash.

According to Lt. Lee Peacock of the Alabama State Troopers Office in Mobile, the 11:50 a.m. crash sequence began when a motorcycle traveling westbound on 32 was waiting to make a left turn into a trailer park. A small vehicle was behind the motorcycle and it was clipped by a delivery van that caused the small vehicle to strike the motorcycle, catching it on fire and pinning the driver beneath.

Two other vehicles attempting to avoid the crash were also involved, according to Peacock, who noted the crash is under investigation at this time.

Those reported injured in the crash were Delaine Harwood, 32, of Dothan, Ala., who was driving a 2006 Ford van; Patricia Sarto, 61, of Foley, who was driving a 2006 Toyota Avalon; Derrick Coleman, 19, of Summerdale, who was riding a 1995 Suzuki motorcycle; Karin Dixon, 33, of Summerdale, who was driving a 2006 Ford Taurus; Gladys Martinez, 28, of Summerdale, who was driving a 2006 Nissan Quest van; and Jesus Gomez, 18, of Summerdale who was a passenger in Martinez’s vehicle.

All the victims were wearing a seat belt and Coleman was wearing a motorcycle helmet. Coleman was transported to USA Medical Center in Mobile. The other injured were taken to Thomas Hospital.
