Martin Luther McGuire Jr., 90, born in Red Level and a resident of Tensaw, died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Oakwood Nursing Home.
He was a retired civil service worker.
He loved the Tensaw community and worked avidly to help develop the community water system and the Tensaw Volunteer Fire Department.
He loved being part of the Coffee Club on Fridays, and was also a member of the Baldwin Lodge No. 142 for 63 years.
He served as a deacon in Montgomery Hill Baptist Church for 61 years.
He is survived by his wife, Edith (Smith) McGuire of Tensaw, whom he married on Dec. 27, 1950; his children, Martha (Doug) Simmons of Stockton and John Martin (Becky) McGuire of Vance; two granddaughters, Patti McGuire and Samantha (Stephen) Caddis; step-granddaughter, Nicole Henderson; great-granddaughter, Sophia McGuire; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Luther McGuire Sr.; his mother, Eula Reynolds McGuire; his sister, Mary Helen Richardson; and his brother, George Newton McGuire.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 24, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Montgomery Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tony Gibson officiating.
Burial will follow at Montgomery Hill Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 23, 2014, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette.
