Mary Jane Allen, 93, of Montrose, died Sunday, March 30, 2014.
She was born to the late Augustus T. and Frances Williams on July 20, 1920 in Montrose.
Mary Jane graduated from Baldwin County Training School in 1936, and went on to receive her teacher’s degree in 1940.
She married the late Adam G. Allen in 1946, and they resided in Montrose.
Mary Jane curtailed her teaching career as they began a family.
She was passionate about singing. She sang and performed for audiences throughout the state in local and various county events.
She was a gifted seamstress, retired from public service at Fairhope Laundry and Dry Cleaners in 1973.
She loved to entertain and travel, including a trip to London with her daughter in 1985.
Mary Jane is survived by five children, Adam Gerard of Mobile, Oliver Russell of Mobile, Peggy A./Malcom Amos of Clarksville, Tenn., Edward Talton of Mobile and Terry Francis of Mobile; a brother, Hildra Williams of Mobile; a sister, Annie Pearl Hill of McIntosh; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held Friday, April 11, 2014, from 5-7 p.m., at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 3 p.m., from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope.
Interment will follow in Montrose Cemetery.
