Mary O’Kelley Coon Toombs of Fayetteville Ga., formerly of Daphne and Fairhope Ala., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013.
Mrs. Toombs was born in Woodville, Miss., to John B Coon and Mary Montgomery Coon. She was a member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millon E. Toombs and siblings, Charles A. Coon, Margerate Maria Coon, SCN, Anna Catherine Coon, SCN, and her twin brother, John B. Coon Jr. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Katherine (Tilo) Haas of Fayetteville Ga., and Martha Jean (Joe) Marston of Prattville, Ala; five grandchildren, H. Adam Haas of St. Augustine, Eric Haas of Virginia Beach, Joseph E.L. Marston of Chattanooga, Benjamin H.T. Marston of Portland Ore., and Tela Kayne of Peachtree City; nine great-grandchildren, Zoe, Ezar, Ethan, Britton, Julia, Laurel, Carter, Austin and Maisie. Mrs. Tooms was a devoted wife and mother. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Lay Franciscans for more than 60 years. She was an overseas telephone operator during World War II and worked in retail sales. She was and enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer and served wherever she was needed throughout her life. A memorial will be held in Fairhope, Ala. at a later date.
