Nettie Luvinia “Lou” Smith Mathis, 72, a native of Greenville and resident of Robertsdale, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010.
She was born Aug. 30, 1937, the oldest of 13 siblings. She retired from Mobile County School System as a crossing guard. After her retirement she worked for Robertsdale Health Care.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud Smith and Sybile Black Smith; and two brothers, Eugene Smith and Wesley Smith.
Survivors include her husband Carl Curtis Mathis of Robertsdale; two daughters, Carol Bonner (Thomas) Birdwell and Patricia “Trish” Sparks, both of Theodore; two sons, David “Bobo” (Deborah) Mathis of Dayton, Texas, and Robbie Mathis of Robertsdale; grandchildren, Jennifer (Terry) Overstreet, Billy (Kimberly) Mathis, Brendon (Alyson) Sparks and Rebecca Mader; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Overstreet, Damian Overstreet, Hannah Mathis, Madelyn Sparks and Hailey Sparks; five sisters, Eloise (Jay) Loper of Chatom, Tiny (John) Paul of Loxley, Sherry (Steve) Burgett of Robertsdale, Lucille (Fabian) Stacey and Betty Smith, both of Bay Minette; and five brothers, Earl (Patsy) Smith of Robertsdale, Tony (Margaret) Smith of Loxley, Junior (Vickie) Smith of Stockton, Lloyd (Brenda) Smith of Citronelle and Bo (Masinda) Smith of Loxley.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1 from the chapel of Mack Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Silverhill Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home and Crematory, Robertsdale.
