Mattie L. Andersen, 96, a native of Poarch and a resident of Summerdale, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011 at a local health care facility.
She was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Atmore; charter member and founder of Greenwood Community Covenant Church 76 years ago; and a retired school bus driver.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Andersen Sr.; step-parents, Hattie and A.J. “Bud” Steadham; four brothers, Jack, Savannah, John and Adam Daughtry; two sisters, Lola D. Presley and Mary Pickern; and one granddaughter, Brooke Lee Harris Buscaino.
Survivors include a daughter, Deloris (Darrell) Porter of Summerdale; two sons, Raymond (Liz) Andersen Jr. of Summerdale and Arthur (Pat) Andersen of Summerdale; four granddaughters, one grandson, 11 great-grandchildre, five great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The family sends a special thanks to Dr. Joseph Steele, Robertsdale Health Care Center, and Covenant Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Foley. Viewing begins at 9 a.m. with funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31 at Greenwood Community Covenant Church. Interment will follow at Wynn Cemetery, Summerdale.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Greenwood Community Covenant Church, Summerdale.
