Mattie Sue Coleman

Mattie Sue Coleman, 90, of Foley, went home to be with the Lord on March 6, 2014.

She was born to Jim and Lillie Croley on March 17, 1923.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, a faithful prayer warrior and a devoted Christian lady who was an inspiration, warming hearts with wisdom and Godly advice to all she touched on her journey along the way.

She was full of love for her family and she loved life. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and sewing quilts.

Those who knew her knew of her famous buttermilk pies and homemade biscuits. She tolerated all life’s bitterness and she indulged in all life’s sweetness.

She was independent, though some would call it strong-willed or even call it being stubborn. But in reality, it was her unending independent spirit which made her will so strong and caused her to be stubborn.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Bernard Coleman; two sons, Kenneth Coleman and Carl Ray Coleman; and one daughter, Bernice Edwards.

She is survived by five daughters, Lillie Reynolds of Bay Minette, Mary Lou Whitehead of Foley, Linda Wilson of Severna Park, Md., Wanda Harms of Summerdale and Virginia Harms of Summerdale; 33 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; and 82 great-great-grandchildren through which hopefully her legacy will live on.

There will be a visitation for Ms. Mattie Sue Coleman on Monday, March 10, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m., at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Bibleway Assembly Church in Foley with burial to follow in Pine Rest Memorial Park.

Arrangements by Pine Rest Funeral Home, Foley.
