Mayor Bailey Yelding Jr., a native and lifelong resident of Daphne, Ala., was born Nov. 18, 1940 to the union of the late Bailey and Clara Yelding. He departed this life on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at his residence.
Mayor Yelding was a trustee, faithful and dedicated member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Daphne, He is a graduate of Baldwin County Training School, Daphne, and Alabama State University, Montgomery, and a member of Daphne Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He is a retired educator, coach and administrator. Mayor Yelding was inducted into the Alabama “Athletic” High School Hall of Fame in 2009. His legacy will be carried on in the “hearts” of his family, friends, church family, fraternity, colleagues and the jubilant citizens of Daphne. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Elizabeth Yelding. Mayor Yelding leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted family, four children, Alaric (Chanda) Yelding, Derrick Yelding, Erika Yelding (Darryl) Ford, Cedric (Phyllis) Yelding Sr. all of Daphne; five grandchildren, Patrick Yelding, Roderic Yelding, Amber Yelding, Cedric Yelding, Jr. and Autumn Elizabeth Ford; Felescia M. (Chubbs Family) and Jerome (Larry Family) Godly; four sisters, Ruth Y. Bolton, Marjorie Lewis, Dr. Caroline Yelding all of Daphne, and Dr. Louise (Jerome) Hayes, Youngstown, Ohio; two brothers, Larry (Ellen) Yelding and Adrian (Constance) Yelding of Daphne; one mother-in-law, Oreal Stokes; four sisters-in-law, Nora (James) Johnson, Beverly (Leslie) Nobles, Barbara Stokes and Cynthia Stokes; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends, and a devoted friend, William Wright. A visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Daphne Civic Center, Daphne.Funeral services at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Macedonia Memorial Garden.
