Lela May McBroom, 98, born May 14, 1909 to Al Caine and Nora Catherine Warrick Hall in Hopeville, Iowa, a resident of Summerdale, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope.

On Dec. 21, 1926 she married Clell Clement McBroom in Leon, Iowa. Six children blessed this union. The family lived mostly in the Garden Grove, Iowa, area, except for a short time in California.

She was a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her family. She later worked in an apple orchard, a cannery, a restaurant, and did housekeeping and babysitting. They retired to Alabama in 1985. She was loved by all and was a big draw for family reunions. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Robertsdale.

For the last three years she was lovingly cared for by her granddaughter, Dianna Ulsrud and great-granddaughter, Amy Starr of Summerdale.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2000; sons Ray and Dale McBroom; grandsons, John, Kevin, Noel and Tracy McBroom, and Mike Blanchard; great-grandson, Dale McBroom; daughters-in-law, Jean and Susan McBroom; brothers, Ira, Rolly, Arthur, Ora, Bill and Lawrence Hall; and sisters, Olive McConnell, Wilma Fry, Ruby Grimm and Susan Hall.

Survivors include her children, Kenny (Shirley) McBroom of Garden Grove, Iowa, Ron (Ginny) McBroom of Winterset, Iowa; Shirley (Dave) Ulsrud of Summerdale, and Allen (Lynette) McBroom of Monroe, Washington; daughter-in-law, Nellie McBroom of Lamoni, Iowa; 26 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Dora Lewis of Osceola, Iowa, and Irene Woosley of Conrad, Iowa; brother, Milburn Hall of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Hall of Decatur City, Iowa, and Margaret Hall of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Interment was held at Metier Cemetery in Decatur County, Iowa.
