McGill-Toolen hires Daphne's Sessions

Posted

MOBILE, Ala. — Bart Sessions was named as the new head football coach of McGill-Toolen Catholic's Yellow Jackets Wednesday.

Sessions, who led the 6A state champion Daphne Trojans as defensive coordinator in 2010, said he and his family were happy about the new position.

“My family and I are very excited about the move,” Sessions said. “It’s a great opportunity. Fr. (W. Bry) Shields (McGill-Toolen President) and principal (Michelle) Hayes and the superintendent and Archbishop (Thomas J.) Rodi have all been great. They feel as I do that there is a support system and the will at McGill to do something special and the goals of the McGill-Toolen family and my family are ones we all share.”

Sessions, though his time at Daphne was short, said it was some of the best months ever spent.

“Glenn Vickery, who I'm very close to and our Daphne family, have been so supportive through this. My time at Daphne was something I’ll always hold as a special experience. My wife and I had already decided that no matter what head-coaching offers we got, if any, we were not going to leave the area if it involved moving.”

Vickery said he was happy for Sessions who would be difficult to replace.

“We are so proud for Bart and his wonderful family,” he said. “His love for our kids and his dedication to our team will never be forgotten. His contribution to the Trojans will always be appreciated by all of the Trojan Nation. Good luck to Bart and Donna and the entire Sessions family.”

Sessions plans to be in his new office Monday morning.

“Right now, I’m just going to enjoy the rest of spring break with my family and hit the ground running Monday getting things lined up. McGill is on spring break next week, but there will be plenty for me to do.”

He replaces Mike Dean, who resigned in February and is now the head coach at 5A Valley High.

Before serving the Trojans as defensive coordinator, Sessions held the same position at Prattville and Davidson and before that was an assistant at B.C. Rain.
