Ralph R. “Snap” Melton of Gulf Shores, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 following a long illness.
He was born May 13, 1924 the son of George Melton and Addie Mae Simmons Melton of Pineville, Fla., near Walnut Hill.
He graduated from Ernest Ward High School in Walnut Hill and attended the university of Florida. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later worked for the military as a civilian at Brookley Field in Mobile and then with the Navy in Pensacola.
For 25 years after his retirement, he owned and captained the charter fishing boats, “Tracy Cat” and “Hollywood” out of Orange Beach.
He was a 55-year resident of Gulf Shores and will be missed by all those who loved him.
Survivors include a brother, George Simmons Melton of Gainesville, Fla.; sister, Doris Melton Sims of Dalton, Ga.; two nieces, two nephews, six grand nieces, one grand nephew and three great-grand nieces.
A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later time.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Community Hospice of Foley.
Cremation arrangements are by Cason Funeral Service, Foley.
