BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Saturday, Feb. 25, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Men of the Coalition, will host a cookout and touring of portions of the Old Douglasville High School Building, beginning in the gym where the event and presentations will take place.

The entire community is invited to come out, learn and see what will be made available to them.

Douglasville High School’s last graduating class was in 1970. The school building is located at 1000 Shedrick Hardy Parkway in Bay Minette.

A group of community leaders consisting of men, known as Men of the Coalition, a non-profit organization, are working with Baldwin County School Board, the city, and has partnered with several other community entities and are in the process of revitalizing the old school building in bringing it back to life for the use of the community. Plans have been made to rename the school Douglasville High School Heritage and Recreation Center, with a subtitle of Bridging the Past, the Present and the Future.

Some of the entities involved are: Habitat for Humanity, Project Safe Neighborhood, ACT II (All churches Together), United Methodist Church, Volunteers of America, Bay Minette Citizens, Police Academy, Bay Minette Police Department and its Youth Academy and  school museum.
