Virginia “Judy” Merlini, a native of Holden, W.Va., died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008.
In 1946 she married George Raymond Merlini. The family moved to Fairhope in 1949. She graduated in pre-med from Ohio University. Finding the field of veterinary medicine closed at that time to women, she received certification in Medical Technology and was employed at Mobile Infirmary for a number of years.
She was an avid equestrienne, and competed successfully in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana, riding well into the closing years of her life.
She was preceded in death by a son, George Raymond Merlini Jr.
Survivors include her husband, George Raymond Merlini.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. with funeral mass at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
