Metha Ann Schlich died peacefully of old age in her home at Westminster Village in Spanish Fort. She died Nov. 4, 2013 with her family at her side.
She was born on Oct. 10, 1925 in Loxley. She graduated Robertsdale High School at age 16 and entered Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, where she was awarded honors that one usually expected to be won by men.
She was a longtime resident of Mobile.
Metha retired from International Paper as a research chemist. She was an honored member of the American Society of Chemical Engineers.
She was a deacon and an active choir member at Springhill Presbyterian Church.
She enjoyed travel, and was a longtime member of Mobile Travel Clubs.
She sang with the Mobile Opera, and actively supported the fine and performing arts in Mobile.
She was a member of the American Association of University Women.
She is survived by Maybelle Godwin, Carl Schlich, Serena Mirabella, Mary Olive Stone, Gaston Boyle, Mary Esther Grego, Sarah Grajew, Ruth Johnson, Lydia Johnson, Friedrich Schlich and Nancy Schlich.
She will be interred in Greenwood Cemetery in Loxley. There will be a memorial service at Loxley Presbyterian Church at a later date.
