FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Last Wednesday was a spiritual high for Page and Palette Bookstore. The independent bookseller hosted a 6-8 p.m. booksigning for New York Times best-selling author Joyce Meyer.

It was the first time Meyer came to an event at an independent book store, Page & Palette owner Karin Wilson said, adding that it turned out to be the best book-signing the well-known television evangelical ever had.

“We sold more than 700 copies of her new book,” Wilson said. Meyer was on-hand to sign her newest release, “The Secret to True Happiness.”

Long tables laden with Meyer’s new book as well as others she has penned — to date more than 70 — were displayed outside on De La Mare Avenue. Attendees selected their choices then got in line for the book-signing, which was held inside the store. Wilson said that over 1,000 copies of Meyer’s books, including earlier releases, were sold that afternoon.

“I absolute adore her and have been trying to get her here for two years,” Wilson said. She added the store would continue to try and book more inspirational authors.

Adding to the event was acoustic music by Mark Harris, head of worship ministries at Daphne’s Bay Community Church and formerly of 4Him, a gospel quartet.

Several area churches set up booths and held fund-raisers for church ministries. Participating were: Daphne United Methodist Church, Crossroads Church of Belforest, First Baptist Church, Fairhope; Fairhope United Methodist Church, Faith Baptist Church, Loxley Church of God and Life Church of Mobile.

A parent-supervised kid’s activities tent was hosted by a Mosher for Mayor team.
