Michigan Snowbird Club meets at Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala. —The Michigan Club held its fourth meeting on Feb. 17 at the Erie Meyer Center in Gulf Shores.

 More than 575 members were in attendance and they were all given Mardi Gras beads and Moon Pies as the entered the meeting room. Following the pledge to the flag and an invocation by Chuck Parrott, the group was entertained by Sweet Harmony. Club member Mary Egbert, from Lake City, Mich., was recognized for her 90th birthday on Feb. 14 and Sweet Harmony sang Happy Birthday to her. Then Charlie Arensmeier, Club President, presented her with a “Life Membership” card.

At this meeting the total Club membership passed the 1,000 mark. Jim and Lois Castle from Traverse City, Mich., were both recognized as the 1,000th member in 2011. Election of officers for 2012 was conducted by Jack Dunn and the results were: President, Charlie Arensmeier; Vice-President, Esther Brown; Recording Secretary, Theresa Hackman; Corresponding Secretary, Rosemarie Tye; Treasurer, Dennis Tye; and Trustee (three-year term), Dean Toner.

Several announcements about future activities were presented by committee chairs. The door prize committee presented approximately 100 prizes given by local businesses to the members. The next meeting will be March 3 at the Erie Meyer Center with coffee at 9:15 a.m. and the meeting starting at 10 a.m. Kim Tatum will provide the entertainment.
