Scoutmaster Dennis Howard Middleton, 64, of Loxley, died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at his home.

He had been a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 45 in Robertsdale for the past 33 years. He was owner and operator for the past 40 years of E.L. Middleton and Son Garage in Loxley that his father established in 1944. He also retired as an assistant minister of The First Christian Church of Robertsdale after 30 years of service, where he was a member and worked on The Outreach Minister Program “Life Connection” to help ex offenders.

He held numerous Scouting awards including The Silver Beaver and the Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor. He attended Wood Badge SR 550 and was in the proud “Bob White” Patrol. He was a meber of The Order of the Arrow WOA Cholena Lodge No. 322. In 1989, he recevied the Who’s Who Gulf Coast Award.

On May 9, Robertsdale Troop 45 dedicated the new Scout lodge in Robertsdale to him for his many years of service to scouting.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest L. Middlton.

Survivors include his wife of over 43 years, Jean Middleton of Loxley; two daughters, Sabrina Middleton of Loxley and Beverly Middleton of Fairhope; son, Dennis Wayne Middleton of Loxley; foster son, Allen Kittrell of Silverhill; sister, Mary Sue (David) Archer of Robertsdale; brother, Charles David (Lillie) Middleton of Silverhill; and 13 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 19 at the First Baptist Church of Robertsdale. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20 at the church with the Rev. Tom Stephenson and the Rev. Dennis Tubbs officiating.

The family requests memorial donations be made to The Dennis Middleton Benefit Fund at any Regions Bank or The Robertsdale Scouting Association Building Fund, 16914 County Road 52, Silverhill, AL 36576 to help complete the Scout lodge in his memory.
